What is A Water Advisory?

  • From time to time you hear in the media that a boil advisory has been issued. The Ohio EPA recommends that when a water main is depressurized, as a precaution the affected area boil the water vigorously for at least one minute before drinking, cooking with, or using for oral hygiene.
  • Water Distribution is constantly upgrading the water system to insure that safe drinking water is provided to the customer. The division makes every effort to notify the customer before a water main has to be shutdown for repairs or upgrading the system. This allows the customer time to plan for a temporary loss of water service.
  • When Water Distribution issues a Water Advisory, the advisory sheet delivered to your home or business will have information giving the date, time, and approximate duration for the loss of service. Water Distribution makes every effort to ensure that repairs and upgrades are completed with the safety of the water system and it's customers as it's top priority.
  • Water Distribution routinely takes a sample of the affected area's water for purity testing after completing a mainline repair or upgrade to the water system. To date, the Division has not had a purity sample returned with bad results after it's repairs or upgrades.
